Top 25 Microsoft Word Shortcut Keys

Who want to get more than 24 hours on a day? Perhaps everyone but no one is getting more than 24 hours in a day. So to get maximum within this limited time people made a lot of shortcut tricks. Some of them save a lot time and some of them save few seconds.

I collected some of useful and uncommon shortcut keys for word. We use CTRL+C and CTRL+V frequently but there is a lots of shortcut keys for winword that will be useful to save time.
Shortcut keys will increase your productivity in your daily life.  If you are preparing for loksewa(PSC) Computer Operator exams then this will be really useful because most of time shortcut keys is asked in exams for few marks.

  1. CTRL+ALT+V  (Paste Special)

    Perhaps everyone knows the shortcut key of paste is CTRL+V but very few knows shortcut key to Paste Special is CTRL+ALT+V you can use this function of windows word to paste copied items as different items such as if you copied a text and you can paste it as image or html format. Not only in word you can use this shortcut in excel too.
  2. CTRL+ALT+M (Add Comment)

    When you want to add something to remember or to indicate then comment is best option. You can simply move cursor next to word or sentence and press CTRL+ALT+M to add comment.
  3. CTRL+ALT+I (Print Preview)
    We usually view how our document is going to be printed. We use print preview option to view what text or graphic is hidden or shown in hard copy. You can go to Menu -> Print -> Print Preview to view it classically but you can save few seconds by using this shortcut key.
  4. ALT+SHIFT+T (Time) & ALT+SHIFT+D (Date)
    When you want to add current time or date in Microsoft Office Word then you can simply press ALT+SHIFT+T to insert time similarly ALT+SHIFT+D to insert date additionally ALT+SHIFT+P to insert page number.
  5. CTRL+SHIFT+<  or CTRL+[  (Decrease Font Size)
    CTRL+SHIFT+< will decrease font size by few numbers based on font size but CTRL+[ will decrease font size by one.
  6. CTRL+SHIFT+>  or CTRL+]  (Increase Font Size)
    CTRL+SHIFT+> will increase font size by few numbers based on font size but CTRL+] will Increase font size by one.
  7. CTRL+W (Close Microsoft Word)
    If you want to close the document then you can use CTRL+W or ALT+f4 shortcut keys.
  8. CTRL+SHIFT+* (View Hidden Characters)
     Microsoft word uses different hidden characters to manage styles of word file if you want to view then use this shortcut key.
  9. CTRL+Spacebar (Reset Text Styles to Default)
    If you changed text styles and want to reset its style as default then you can use this shortcut keys.
  10. CTRL+SHIFT+F6 (Switch to another windows)
     It will switch to another open Microsoft Word document.
  11. CTRL+ SHIFT+ C (Copies the formatting of selected text)
    You must select some texts to copy its formatting.
  12. CTRL + SHIFT + V (Pastes the formatting on selected text)
    You Must Select some texts in order to paste formatting.
  13. CTRL+Y (Redo the last action)
    Everyone knows CTRL+Z is a shortcut keys to undo the last action but very few knows CTRL+Y is used for redo.
  14. CTRL+SHIFT+D (Double Underline)
  15. CTRL+SHIFT+W (Words only underline) -This shortcut key will underline words only not spaces and tabs.

  1. CTRL+A - Select all
  2. CTRL+B - Applies or removes bold formatting.
  3. CTRL+C - Copies Selected texts and graphics.
  4. CTRL+F - Open find box.
  5. CTRL+I- Applies or remove Italic Formatting.
  6. CTRL+= - Apply subscript formatting.
  7. CTRL+SHIFT+= - Apply Superscript Formatting
  8. CTRL+S- Save Documents
  9. CTRL+P- Print Documents.
  10. CTRL+V- Paste copied items.
