Supercell- the creator of popular game Clash of Clans and Clash Royale forum was hacked and leaked over 1 million user data which includes username email adresses, hashed password, ip addresses.
On latest statement from Supercell warned its all users about latest data leak and asked them to change password immediately. They said breach happened in September 2016 and the issue is solved.
Supercell forum uses the vBulletin forum software, according to Motherboard vBulletin password hashing system can be insecure sometime. They also verified the leak with the help of sample data provided by Paid breach notification site LeakBase . They matched data provided by LeakBase with 8 users data and found it correct. Leakbase claimed the data contain about 1.1 million accounts.
“Our preliminary investigation suggests that the breach happened in September 2016 and it has since been fixed,”
Clash of Clans Game accounts have not been affected in this incident as far as Supercell knows
“ We take any such breaches very seriously and we follow very strict policies when it comes to
security. Please note that this breach only affects our Forum service. Game accounts have
not been affected,”
Although they clearly mentioned the Game accounts of Clash of Clans have not been affected in this only forum accounts are affected, it is better practice to change the game account, facebook, gmail password etc along with the forum password if you used same password. You should always use unique and strong password for different account to secure your other account if one of them is leaked.
This is second time Supercell suffered from hack, on 2014 hackers had hacked Supercell administrative panel and Facebook page. Supercell made entry again in 2017...
